MORE FROM MCKENZIE

Hello, my name is McKenzie Bruckler, and I am a dedicated student-athlete in the Class of 2027 with a deep love for the game of softball. I play utility (excluding pitcher), but catching is where I feel most at home. When I put on my helmet, the outside world fades away. Behind the plate is my safe space — a place where I feel focused, confident, and fully present. I take pride in encouraging my teammates and watching each of us grow stronger in our roles over time. Softball has given me more than just a position on the field; it has given me purpose, connection, and confidence.

Before softball, I was a competitive dancer for several years. After the COVID pandemic changed so much of our world, I decided to try something new and joined Harrisburg Rec Softball. I quickly fell in love with the sport. What began as something new and unfamiliar became one of the most important parts of my life. I have now played school softball for five years and travel ball for four years, and I am excited to continue competing at a high level in showcase ball.

Softball has played a powerful role in my mental health journey. I have struggled with fear and anxiety, and this sport has given me a healthy and positive outlet. When I feel overwhelmed, stepping into the batter’s box allows me to channel those emotions with focus and control. The game has taught me resilience, confidence, and how to push through difficult moments. It has also allowed me to build meaningful friendships and connections that I truly cherish. I not only love the game itself, but I also want to share that love — encouraging my teammates, supporting their growth, and helping create an environment where everyone feels confident and capable.

Outside of softball, I enjoy running and have completed two half marathons, with plans to run more. Running challenges me mentally and physically, and I love setting new goals for myself. I also value traveling with my family and spending quality time with friends.

After undergoing two orthopedic surgeries, I experienced firsthand the incredible impact of physical therapy. My therapists played a vital role in my recovery — not just physically, but mentally as well. They helped me regain strength, confidence, and belief in my body. Their encouragement and expertise inspired me to pursue a career as a physical therapist so that I can help others heal and return to the activities they love, just as they helped me do.

Softball has shaped who I am — as an athlete, a teammate, and a person. I am excited to continue growing, competing, and embracing every opportunity ahead.
