ZYA DUNLAP

Zya Dunlap is a rising senior at East Mecklenburg High School. Throughout her academic journey, she has maintained A’s and B’s, with her current GPA being 3.05 weighted. Zya has received several academic awards in recognition of her efforts. Although she is not currently involved in any clubs, Zya is a certified lifeguard and has been working at Charlotte Country Day School for the past two years.

I am deeply interested in the field of pediatrics because I’ve always had a passion for helping others—especially children. Becoming a nurse has been a long-standing goal of mine. I enjoy science and learning about how the body works, and I also love working with young people. A career in pediatrics would allow me to combine both of these interests.

My softball journey began at the age of 11, when my father asked if I wanted to try out for the sport. I was up for the challenge, and as soon as I stepped onto the field, I fell in love. I knew this was the sport for me. I started playing in church leagues, then moved on to my middle school team. In high school, I’ve been a part of the varsity team since my freshman year, and I have started in every game since my freshman year. During both my sophomore and junior years, I was honored to be named an All-Conference player. Winning this recognition motivated me to work even harder, and I am determined to continue earning this award throughout the rest of my high school career.

In addition to school softball, I’ve also played on All-Star teams and travel teams. I am currently a member of the Black Widows travel team.
